Rob's Auto Care Inc

My mechanic couldn't fit me in for a NYS inspection after getting a ticket for it being expired so I called up Rob's Auto Care and they fit me in for a drop off same day. They failed my NYS inspection on grounds of "radiator fluid is leaking, thermostat is broken, some of the pipes are rusted, and transmission fluid is leaking." And quoted us $4000 for these repairs. I took my car to my own mechanic the next day for an inspection, told him none of this to see if he would come to the same conclusion, and my car passed the inspection. Furthermore, he didn't mention that any of this needs to be done. In conclusion, even if my car needed those repairs (debatable), they weren't grounds for failing the NYS inspection. I won't make accusations, but it very much feels like Rob saw I was in desperate situation and tried to swindle me out of $4000. Good experience, I have been here a couple of times now over the years just to get my NYS inspection done. They were always able to take care of me right away. The tech removed the old sticker and completely cleaned the glass before applying the new one. I really appreciated that small touch (most other places don't do that for the 10 bucks). Can't speak for other services but the staff's professional attitude gave me a good impression.

I want to preface this review by saying that I am new to the area and know almost nobody. I went to Rob's Auto Care out of curiosity. I needed to rent a Uhaul to move furniture and saw a few parked in the front of the building as I was driving by. Unfortunately, they did not have the size I needed. I had a good feeling about Rob's while I was there. It felt like a community establishment and Rob seemed like a nice and understanding guy, a quality which is rare in most mechanics. I had a cracked muffler and was making a terrible noise and I figured I would give these guys a shot to get it repaired. It turned out the pipe was rotted and a sealing disk had worn out and Rob and his team showed me all of this before they began any work. The repair was prompt and completed in the same day. The cost was very close to the estimate and Rob was willing to work with me on the price to get it closer to his previous estimate.
