They agreed to rebuild my front breaks using my parts for their shop rate at 3.4 hours. They called me and said that they needed brake pads and said it wasn't a problem and they would get them locally for me. I agreed. When I went to pick up my van I was presented with a bill for $128 for the brake pads. I checked local prices on google and found their price was anything from 2 to 5 times what pads cost. So I felt they were gouging me on the price. Then they wanted to tack on another $20 for what they called shop costs. They agreed on a compromise for the cost of the brake pads. They came down to $79 for the pads which was the most expensive they could find on a list of locally available pads I had printed out and brought in with me. It ended up costing me about $100 more than their original quote. I do not feel that this was unreasonable but do feel that they tried to gouge me on the cost of the brake pads and could have told me in advance about their additional shop costs.

My Ford Fusion had a whole series of check engine lights come on and power steering failure. It was towed to the Ford dealer. The Ford dealer diagnosed it (at a cost of $360) and would waived that fee if I fixed it there. To fix it, the Ford dealer wanted over $4000. Plus the Ford dealer told me the car wouldn't be repaired for 3 months! I had a bad feeling about the Ford dealer, so decided to have it towed to Glenwood Automotive. Long story short, Glenwood Automotive diagnosed it correctly (which in my case was 3 worn wires that had worn through and broke due to the Ford dealer's poor work on a recall the car had previously). Glenwood fixed my car for $380 the same day. The Ford dealer just used a diagnostic computer to diagnose it and then throw parts at it; instead of finding out what actually was wrong with the car.
