I dropped off my car for an NY inspection. I get a call after a few hours and the gentleman told me that the car passed, they 'fixed' the engine light issue and need my consent to put oil because there was none. The red flags were that 1. I had just bought the car 2 months ago from CarMax and saw the latter change the oil. I thought maybe it leaked out and gave Walt the benefit of doubt. 2. I never saw the engine light turn 'on' before giving them the car. They didn't have an answer why the light turned on. 3. Upon getting the car back I noticed that the mpg instantly dropped from 35 to 25. The pickup also dropped. Soon, the engine light turned back on. Upon using my OBDII reader, I see a P0172 code. After popping the hood, I see the K&N filter for the engine had detached. I put a new filter and everything is fine now. Not going back. I visited Walt's Automotive Service on March 20th for a pre-purchase inspection. While the staff was friendly and the process was quick, I was extremely disappointed with the service I received. The mechanic who checked the car failed to seal the hood after inspecting it, which was incredibly dangerous as I only realized it was open while driving on the highway. This was a major oversight that could have resulted in a serious accident. To make matters worse, recently I discovered that the car had worn engine mounts after driving 200 miles and, which was the whole point of the inspection. I feel misled and frustrated that the inspection failed to identify this issue, which could have been prevented with a proper check. It's clear that the level of professionalism that I once appreciated at Walt's has taken a sharp decline. I hope this review helps others avoid similar situations and encourages Walt's to take the necessary steps to improve their services and prevent future oversights tha
